Painting in a Winter Mood with Aaron Schuerr
Every artist knows that snow is anything but white. It reflects the world around it and simplifies the landscape in an elegant and exciting way. In this workshop we’ll home in on the winter palette. You’ll learn how light waves scatter to illuminate the blue-grey top plane, the upturned highlights, and how it reflects into the deep blue shadows. You’ll learn how to create a convincing sense of space while creating a pleasing design.
You’ll learn to paint it in a way that is direct, simple fresh, and honest. You’ll engage in fun exercises designed to focus on value, color and shape. From that foundation, you’ll explore edges, atmospheric perspective, color relationships, composition, and mood. Most importantly you’ll learn to paint with greater intention.
Demonstrations will be in oil, but the workshop is open to pastel and oil. Some experience is helpful but not mandatory.
